Direct from Brisbane, Melbourne & Stockholm, it’s the return of Australia’s most intriguing musical proposition

Plus One Records in association with Street Press Australia are proud to present Brisbane’s astounding musical collective The Gin Club across Australia in November in support of “Choppin’ Wood”, the third single from their highly acclaimed fourth album Deathwish.

The Gin Club – a collective of songwriters who met at an open-mic night in a Brisbane pub – has grown into one of the finest bands in the country. Musicians love them – Tim Rogers and The Drones are fans – and with 2008’s powerful Junk, and now this excellent fourth album, word is spreading to a wider audience.”

Noel Mengel reviewing Deathwish in The Daily Telegraph, Sydney

The Choppin’ Wood Australia Tour will be one of the band’s most extensive jaunts ever, taking in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales in both regional centres and capital cities. The eight piece Gin Club – augmented by the recent return of Stockholm-based founding member Ola Karlsson – will be performing tracks from all of their four studio albums as well as the usual eclectic selection of covers. They’ll be joined in Sydney and Brisbane by special guests Dave McCormack & the Polaroids.

2010 has been a particularly successful year for The Gin Club. March saw the release of Deathwish to widespread critical acclaim and a series of sold out shows – second single “Pennies” received high rotation on national broadcaster Triple J. Then there was a controversial feature in Rollingstone magazine, a headlining spot at Melbourne venue Yah Yahs’ 2nd birthday celebrations and a highly coveted Grand Final Eve support slot for Weddings, Parties, Anything in front of over 1200 punters at the Palace in Melbourne.

Changeability works in The Gin Club’s favour as they dissipate across the stage when one song ends, then rise together in total cohesion in the midst of the next one.. From my island, experiencing this ebb and flow is like observing some serious tidal action and wishing I had a tougher tinny.”

Alice Body reviewing The Gin Club live in InPress magazine

It’s hard to tire of Deathwish when every song is like a completely different chapter, written by a different author who’s been influenced by divergent tastes”

Andrew McMillen reviewing Deathwish in Mess + Noise

On a personal level, multi instrumentalist Dan Mansfield got married, loudmouth Ben Salter recorded a solo album, and cellist Bridget Lewis went to New York. Conor Macdonald got a promotion at work while Adrian Stoyles got the sack; Gus Agars did some manual labour and played drums for Tex Perkins, while Scott Regan applied for NEIS. Meanwhile Brad Pickersgill continued his program towards world domination in Vancouver and Brisbane, while Ola Karlsson taught kindergarten, counted boxes and bided his time…
